Tips To Protect Your Home in Cold Weather

Water-Sewer Manager Eric Carty has reported that calls for frozen pipes have been coming in because of the sub-zero temperatures. Carty recommends that you seal all open spaces or cracks in your house that lead to outside. "Please make sure to check your basement to ensure that all windows, doors and any cracks or spaces open to the outside are sealed to prevent the cold air from freezing your pipes."

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Jan 8th 3:15pm for Ice Rink

Thursday January 8th at 3:15pm there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony to welcome the Ice Rink at the Hopkinton High School Basketball Courts (in-front of the school). The ceremony will feature Superintendent Dr. Cathy MacLeod, Parks and Recreation Board of Directors, Parks and Recreation Director Jay Guelfi as well as other town departments who contributed to put together the rink.

The Community is welcome to join as the Public Skating Rink is welcome!

Marathon Number Available from Hopkinton Education Foundation

Hopkinton, MA, January 6, 2015 -- The Hopkinton Education Foundation has received one invitational number for the 119th Boston Marathon on April 20, 2015, and is making it available to interested runners.

To secure a bib, runners must commit to fundraising a minimum of $4,000, which will go to support the Foundation’s innovation grants to Hopkinton educators.

To apply, visit www.hopkintoneducationfoundation.org for an application form. The deadline for submission is January 30th.

Keep Warm, Keep Safe.

State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan and all the members of the Massachusetts fire service are concerned that the winter months will lead to an increase in fires from heating. Heating is the second leading cause of home fires in Massachusetts. It is important to Keep Warm, Keep Safe this winter.

26 Year Old Hopkinton Man survives branch through Windshield

Strong wind Monday Afternoon led to a branch flying through a windshield of a car driving on Rte. 135 in Ashland. At the time the branch smashed through the windshield, a 26 year old Hopkinton man was driving. According to reports the driver fortunately was not harmed. The winds Monday reached above 30 mph in the Hopkinton/Ashland area and this should be a reminder to all of how dangerous the strong gusts can be.

Elementary School Building Committee Releases Site Alternatives

Hopkinton’s Elementary School Building Committee (ESBC) has set the date for their next community workshop, "Understanding Site Options," to be held January 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at the Hopkinton Middle School library. This is the second of three workshops designed to engage the public in the Center School Feasibility Study, a project to address the constraints at Center School focused on meeting the needs of Hopkinton's pre-K through 1st grade educational program. “We’ve reached a very exciting point in the timeline of this project," said ESBC Clerk Rob Nickerson.

Hopkinton Outdoor Rink to Open Tuesday Jan 6th

The freezing weather is here which means the new Hopkinton High School Outdoor Rink will open for Skating. The Rink is due to open Tuesday January 6th for the first time this season and with freezing temperatures on the way, it should mean the rink will be open a good portion of the coming weeks. As long as the temperatures stay cold, the rink will stay open.
