Editorial: Supporting Muriel Kramer

By contributor,

Most civilized countries feature, in their legal code, a means enabling an accused to legally step outside of a jail cell by posting bail, of cash or other value. That is then held by the court with the expectation that the accused will return to stand trial. And while the accused may then “Go directly to Jail”, the bail will be returned to whomever posted it.

Editorial: Hopkinton Resident Responds to Photo in Local Publication

By contributor,

Dear Editor,

It has come to my attention that a photograph featuring me has been used in connection with a news article written in support of the Massachusetts Bail Fund. The photograph was taken when I was standing behind Muriel Kramer while waiting to speak at a Hopkinton town meeting.

The publication that printed the photo, the Hopkinton Independent, did so without my permission and has removed my photo from their website. Unfortunately, the image has already been shared on social media and my picture now appears in connection with the bail fund.

Editorial: Endorsing Jesse Mermell for Congress

By contributor,

Editor,
I am voting for Jesse Mermell as the Democratic candidate for our Fourth
Congressional District. Here’s why:
In a field of nine Jesse stands out for her clarity on the whole range of progressive
issues – all of which make sense to me as a businessman:

• Economic growth through investment in environmentally modern industries. Call
it the Green New Deal if you must but investing in the future makes more sense
to me than continuing to subsidize the past.

Editorial: Endorsing Amy Ritterbusch for Select Board

By contributor,

I have only words of praise for Amy Burns Ritterbusch. She’s clearly committed to bettering Hopkinton. I have found her to be equable, thoughtful, honest and industrious in her many town-based activities. She works to find the balance of truths in any given situation (not an easy undertaking); in this respect, she truly works for the community as a whole. I know her to be calm-headed, well-prepared, courageous and respectful of others. We are lucky in this town to have a surfeit of knowledgeable, committed and engaged volunteers to help us navigate these difficult times.
