My name is Meg Tyler, and I am running for School Committee.
As a professor of Humanities at Boston University and as a parent of two, I’ve been thinking about educational practices for much of my adult life. My work requires that I continually challenge my assumptions and test and fortify my knowledge.
Education is more than my profession-it is my passion, and I want to support our students in Hopkinton and the teachers who teach them. Research suggests that both groups thrive in an environment where they feel in possession of their dignity and where others acknowledge their full potential. Evidence-based practices shape the education that best serves our children. I want to help cultivate such an environment in our schools and to sustain our successes and strengthen any areas of deficit.
My educational background and my willingness both to listen and to labor would add value to the School Committee. I understand the importance of celebrating a diverse student body where each student enjoys success. My family has been in Hopkinton for thirteen years; our nine-year old has been in the Hopkinton schools for five years. I want him and his peers to flourish.
