BOSTON — The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) today announced a wide array of family-friendly programs that will be offered by the agency throughout the Massachusetts state parks system during next week’s traditional school vacation week. Some of the many school vacation programs offered by DCR include guided hikes, wildlife observation opportunities, crafting activities, history lessons, games, stories, and more; a full list of activities and programming can be found on DCR’ website.

“For generations the Massachusetts state parks system has been an excellent source of recreational opportunities for the public to enjoy, and the Department of Conservation and Recreation is happy to offer additional programming during the upcoming school vacation week,” said DCR Commissioner Leo Roy.

In addition to the special school vacation week programming, DCR will also continue to offer its normal recreational and interpretive programming, as well as adaptive programming through the agency’s Universal Access Program. Also, during school vacation week, public skating will be extended at DCR managed rinks from 10:00AM to 2:50PM.

Due to the unpredictability of the weather, such as low temperatures, precipitation, or wind, the DCR asks that all members of the public call ahead to confirm that the scheduled program is able to take place. Proper outerwear, including coats, boots, hats, and gloves, is encouraged for all participants of outdoor programs to ensure an enjoyable and safe outing.
