Talk at Golden Pond for Golden Pond Employees
October 14th 2:30-3:30 PM, The Lodge

Speaker - Don Arnoudse

We do not have to live the seductive but toxic story of “thoroughly using ourselves up before we die”. We can do what makes us come alive - every day, every moment - until our last breath. We can die full of life - and make a difference while we live. We can live exuberantly until the end.

Exuberance is an uplifting, contagious energy that moves people into focused, collective action. It’s our birthright; part of the design of being human. Our first order of business is to take care of our own energy, our essential life force, our exuberance. This requires constant attention to how we mix self-care, purpose, and relationships. It's our "light" that raises the spirits of those we serve.

For people whose life is spent in service to others, self-care often takes second place. There are so many needs, and our contributions may seem to go without much appreciation in return. Such caring for others may carry a dark side of self-sacrifice, burn out or resentment. We can end up feeling like victims ourselves. Our most precious relationships may suffer from lack of attention and care, however we can choose not to have this happen. We have the power to choose our own perceptions and moods.

Using stories drawn from his own life and the research for his upcoming book, Exuberance, Don Arnoudse will show how we can better "take care of our light". He will engage the audience in a brief self-reflection and discussion of what actions each of us can take now to refresh and sustain our natural exuberant energy.
