The Town of Hopkinton Fire Department is accepting applications for the position of Career Firefighter / Paramedic. Completed applications inclusive of all required documentation as listed below must be mailed or delivered in hand at the HR Department, 18 Main Street, Hopkinton, MA 01748. Applications can be picked up at this address or may be e-mailed upon written or electronic request. Applications, letters of reference, resumes and required documentation shall be returned by 1700 hours (5:00 PM) on Tuesday, 05 August 2014. Applications can be completed electronically via www.hopkintonma.gov.

Prospective candidates will be given a written test, oral interview(s); CORI background check(s) and, after an offer of employment is subject to psychological examination and a physical examination by a physician chosen by the Town. Candidates must be at least eighteen (18) years of age, possess a valid Massachusetts driver’s license, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and have a current Massachusetts E.M.T. Paramedic certificate. A copy of this documentation is required to be submitted at the time of application.

Candidates must maintain minimum licenses and certifications, and be non-smokers per Massachusetts General Law c32. Any person appointed to the Hopkinton Fire Department shall within twelve (12) months after such appointment, make their principal place of residence within the boundaries of the Town of Hopkinton or at any place within the Commonwealth that is within fifteen (15) miles boundary to boundary of their town and the Town of Hopkinton.

The written entrance examination will held on Saturday 06 September 2014 at 10:00 in the Fire Department Training/EOC Room, 73 Main Street, Hopkinton, MA. All applications and resumes shall be accompanied by a certified bank check or money order in the amount of fifty dollars ($50.00) made out to “Municipal Resources Incorporated”.

Duties of the Firefighter / Paramedic in the Hopkinton Fire Department include fire suppression, emergency ambulance and medical work, rescue, hazardous materials incidents, fire prevention, fire safety education, station and vehicle maintenance and other duties as determined by the Chief of Department. All benefits including compensation are outlined in the current collective bargaining agreement with the Town. The work week averages forty-two (42) hours on an eight (8) week cycle or day position.
