George R Boothby, 87, of Fayville passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the devoted husband for 62 years of Phyllis (Pessini) Boothby. A longtime resident of Southboro, George worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Southboro Highway Department for 31 years and worked as a call fireman for the Southboro Fire Department for 40 years, retiring as a call lieutenant.
In addition to his wife Phyllis, he is survived by four children; Maureen Colleary and her husband James of Southboro; George Boothby Jr. and his wife Rosemary of Vermont; Christine Brock and her husband Stephen of Millbury; and Scott Boothby and his wife Marcia of Ashland; five cherished grandchildren; Tammi, Paul, Michael, Robert, and Jennifer, and one great-grandchild, Alexandra.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Aug. 9th at 10:30am in St. Matthew’s Church in Southboro with burial to follow in Rural Cemetery in Southboro. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. in Ashland. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Southboro Fire Dept.
