“Birsdcaping: Home Sweet Habitat” with Jana Milbocker and Joan Bulter will be held at The Hopkinton History Center, 168 Hayden Rowe St, Hopkinton. Our club’s general meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. The speaker portion is at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public. New members are welcome any time during our club year.

This delightfully illustrated program explores the importance of creating welcoming habitats for birds through thoughtful landscape choices, including native plants vital for food and nesting sites. Learn about the joys and benefits of creating beautiful layered gardens designed to bring avian performers right into our own backyards.

Jana Milbocker is the principal of Enchanted Gardens, a lecturer, and garden writer. She published The Garden Tourist: 120 Destination Gardens and Nurseries in the Northeast in 2018. She has a passion for landscape design and horticulture, and has been gardening on her 2-acre property in Holliston’s historic district for over 20 years. The garden surrounding her Victorian home features more than 140 varieties of trees and shrubs, perennial gardens, peony and rose beds, water features and shady retreats. Jana is interested in all aspects of design—spatial relationships, the interplay of light and shadow, color theory, texture, proportion and plant combinations. Trained as a graphic designer, Jana brings years of critical design thinking, clarity and cohesiveness to her landscape solutions. Her professional experience includes twenty-five years as an art director and designer. Jana holds a BFA from Syracuse University, an MBA from Boston College, and coursework in horticulture and landscape design.

Joan Butler has been an enthusiastic gardener for over 30 years, and believes gardens should invite you to linger in the world outside your door. Her gardens have been included on several garden tours, and feature exciting plant combinations, dramatic horticultural specimens, and collections of hosta, heuchera and epimedium. Joan is a Master Gardener, a horticulturist at Weston Nurseries, and is a past Chairman of the Massachusetts Landscape Design Council. She is also an accredited Flower Show Judge, and was Chairman of the floral design Division I competition at the Boston Flower & Garden Show 2014-2015.
