Library Board of Trustees Seeks Support for Expansion

In 1895 the Hopkinton Public Libary was built with contributions from the 2,984 residents of our wonderful town. In 1967, when the town's population almost doubled to 5,569, the Library Trustees purchased the adjacent Episcopal Churc and connected the two buildings together to meet the demands of its growing community.

Today, Hopkinton's library -- only 5.015 square feet -- is among the smallest in the state, despite a population that now exceeds 15,000 residents. To meet the needs of our growing population, the Trustees have been exploring cost-efficient ways to expand.

Thank you to those who voted at the May 2010 Town Meeting in support of applying for state grant money to expand our library. The state grant, if awarded, will pay 50% of the construction costs for a newly expanded library!

In anticipation of this grant, we are excited to announce that the Library Trustees are currently working with the town to devise a plan to expand the library within its current location. Please consider making a donation to the Hopkinton Public Library Building Fund to help us make this plan a reality.

We need your support to create a library that meets the changing needs of all residents. Our new library will be a community-gathering center for the town with:

- Improved handicapped accessibility
- More comjmunity events such as the High School Holiday Choir and author readings
- A spacious children's room to accomodate story hours, crafts and programs
- More technology options with computer stations, databases and e-reading devices
- Community meeting space

Your tax deductible donation is a long-term investment in the future of our community and our library. Thank you so much for your support!
