An organization called Safewise, who works to increase home and community safety released the "Top 20 Safest Cities in Massachusetts for 2020" list and Hopkinton is ranked at the top of the list. This is the 6th year Safewise has released the list of Safest Cities in Massachusetts.
The organization ranked Hopkinton 1st on the list, Franklin was in 2nd, Shrewsbury in 3rd. On last years list Hopkinton was also ranked 1st. Cities and Towns with fewer than 8,000 residents did not qualify for the study. "We narrowed it down based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) in each city. To further level the playing field, we calculated the likelihood of these crimes occurring out of 1,000 people in each city." Hopkinton was ranked as having 0.1 violent crimes per 1,000 residents and 1.6 property crimes per 1,000 residents. Top city Hopkinton reported 0 burglaries in 2018.
The study also indicated that statewide violent crime rate and property crime rate is below the National Average.
