An organization called Safewise, who works to increase home and community safety released the "Top 20 Safest Cities in Massachusetts for 2019" list and Hopkinton is ranked towards the top of the list.
The organization ranked Hopkinton 1st on the list, Norton was in 2nd, Shrewsbury in 3rd. On last years list Hopkinton was ranked 3rd. Cities and Towns with fewer than 8,000 residents did not qualify for the study. "We narrowed it down based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) in each city. To further level the playing field, we calculated the likelihood of these crimes occurring out of 1,000 people in each city." Hopkinton was ranked as having 0 violent crimes per 1,000 residents and 3.40 property crimes per 1,000 residents.
The study also indicated that statewide violent crime rate is 10% lower than the national average and property crime rate is 50% lower than the national average.
