What to Expect in Patriots Season Opener

It's that time of year again folks! The Patriots will open their season against the New Orleans Saints today at 7:30pm in Gillette Stadium. After having an incredible season last year with a trip to the AFC Championship game, the Patriots will look to keep their sights high in 2016. The offseason featured the end of Deflate-gate with Tom Brady accepting the 4-game suspension to start off the season. The Patriots also signed 8 of their 9 draft picks to contacts. Players include CB Cyrus Jones, OL Joe Thuney, DT Vincent Valentine, WR Malcolm Mitchell,LB Kamu Grugier-Hill, LB Elandon Roberts , G Ted Karras and seventh-round pick WR Devin Lucien. Head Coach Bill Belichick addressed the media yesterday and said that he does not plan to play QB Tom Brady. With Tom Brady sitting, expect backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo to get many reps in. Garoppolo had shown promise last year in the preseason and many coaches on the Patriots have remarked on how much his game has improved. Also watch out for rookie WR Malcolm Mitchell. He has shown great speed at practice and is capable of making big plays in big moments. For the Patriots defense, DE Rob Ninkovich tore his triceps during Tuesday's practice and is expected to be out for 4-6 weeks. With the veterans absence, expect Belichick to put many younger players in the lineup and help them get as many reps as possible. For the Patriots, this game is all about putting what they learned into practice. This matchup should be very entertaining and I am excited to see which younger player steps up in the big moment!
