Danielle Cook, Reference and Technology Supervisor at the Hopkinton Public Library stopped by the HCAM studios and talked with Jim Cozzens about this years annual Hopkinton Public Library Winter Reading Marathon. Sign-ups for the reading marathon started today (Feb 12th) and the program starts next Sunday (February 18th).

Library Director Nanci Hill and the Hopkinton Public Library are excited to announce the Reading Marathon in conjunction with the 100-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon starting in Hopkinton.

Sign up for the challenge at the library at any desk. Sign-up begins on Feb. 12. The program begins on Feb. 18. Participants may also join after the start date.

A public forum will be held on Monday, February 12th at 6:00 PM to discuss plans for the upcoming renovations to Hopkins Elementary School. The forum will take place at the HCAM Studio, 77 Main Street on the basement level, and will also be streamed live on HCAM-ED and YouTube.

Need Help Paying Property Taxes?

Apply by February 23rd to the Hopkinton Tax Relief Fund Low-income Hopkinton residents with a state-recognized disability or age 60+ who own and occupy a single-family home are encouraged to apply for tax relief.

Maximum income for households is $48,000 for one, $60,000 for two, $69,000 for three, and $76,000 for four or more.

Applications are available at Town Hall, the Senior Center, Library, Youth and Family Services and the town website.

Chief Gary Daugherty and the Hopkinton Fire Department would like to share safety tips with the community as a part of National Burn Awareness Week.

Burn Awareness Week, organized by the American Burn Association (ABA), began this year on Sunday, Feb. 4, and ends on Saturday, Feb. 10. This annual campaign serves as an opportunity for fire officials to share common burn prevention messages with their communities.

The 2024 Burn Awareness Week theme is flammable liquid burns.

On Thursday evening, at the continuation of the hearing that was paused on Jan. 19, the Hopkinton Select Board voted to terminate the employment of Timothy Brennan from the Hopkinton Police Department.

After the Select Board paused the meeting on Jan. 19, the Town of Hopkinton and counsel for the labor union had attempted to resolve the matter in a mutually acceptable manner. Those discussions were unsuccessful, resulting in Thursday's vote.

Termination is effective Monday, Feb. 12.

Hopkinton/DS Girls and Hiller Boys hockey were both in action at the New England Sports Center this past Wednesday night and both teams captured big wins!

#34 ranked Hopkinton/Dover-Sherborn Girls Hockey Co-Op improved to 5-11-2 with an overtime upset 3 to 2 win over #24 Norwood. Norwood falls to 6-10-1.

Hopkinton Sophomore, Lucey Jean netted all 3 goals for the Hillers and Hop/DS, Nipmuc Sophomore, Riley Collura was fantastic in net. The game-winning goal was scored on a breakaway by Lucey Jean at 1:13 left in the 5-minute OT period.

The Board of Directors of the Metrowest Symphony Orchestra (MSO) has announced that the orchestra will begin rehearsing and performing primarily in Hopkinton. Performances will be held at Hopkinton High School or Middle School, as well as the Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA) and other area locations.

The 26.2 Foundation kicked off the 100th year anniversary celebration of the Boston Marathon Start-line in Hopkinton. Hopkinton became the home of the start-line in 1824 and this year will host the start of the world's most famous Marathon for the 100th year in a row.
