Save The Date: 4th Annual Golf Tournament

The 4th Annual Hopkinton High Golf Tournament Committe has met and I would like to announce that you "SAVE THE DATE" for this years Hopkinton High School Fundraising Golf Tournament. The FLYER and Registration Form are enclosed with the date-place and time for this years event. It will be on Monday, August 19th at the Shining Rock Golf Club once again. It will be a Florida Style Scramble beginning at 1:00PM with a "Shot Gun" start. We are planning on filling this years tournament with 36 teams so please secure your foursome ASAP.

Hopkinton Education Foundation Golf Ball Drop on June 4

On Tuesday, June 4 (rain date June 6) at the Hopkins School athletic field, the Hopkinton Education Foundation will be dropping 1,000 golf balls from a hot air balloon (or construction lift, depending on the weathe">Cr) to see who wins $1,000! The ball closest to the hole wins $1,000, and the ball farthest from the hole wins $100. Join us from 5:30-7:30pm. In addition to the drop, we will have face painting, tethered balloon rides and concessions. We are also looking for strong volunteers who would like to assist in holding the balloon lines (please sign up here).

2013 Middlesex Sheriffs Youth Public Safety Academy!

The Town of Ashland is once again participating in the free Middlesex Sheriffs Office Youth Public Safety Academy. Children who have never attended the camp before will be given priority. All forms, including the medical, must be submitted together.

Dykema Supports Bipartisan Legislation to Move 17-Year-Olds into Juvenile Justice System

Representative Carolyn Dykema (D-Holliston) joined her colleagues in the Massachusetts House of Representatives last week to unanimously support bipartisan legislation increasing the age of juvenile jurisdiction from the 17th birthday to the 18th birthday. Massachusetts is one of only 11 states in which 17-year-olds are automatically prosecuted as adults.

Food Donations Needed

Dear Parents of Seniors,

Donations of drinks and chips are still needed for the Senior Picnic on Monday, June 3. We need cases of water, Arnold Palmers and large boxes of individual bags of assorted chips, which you can buy at BJs. If you can help by donating any of these items, please drop them off anytime to Cathy McCrorey, 3 Blackthorne Circle or Joanne Sables, 26 Wood St. Donations can be dropped on either front porch.

Opinion: 2013 Town Meeting A Big Disappointment

I have been attending Town Meetings for about 40 years and this year’s Town Meeting was a big disappointment from beginning to end. When it was announced that one budget (both school and the rest of the town) was being proposed to make the meeting more expedient, it became obvious it was at the expense of the voter. It seemed this year that any past decisions made at other Town Meetings were no longer pertinent.

Memorial Day Activities in Hopkinton

Monday, May 27, 2013, Hopkinton will hold its annual Memorial Day commemorative events. Events will include prayers, readings, playing of “Taps”, gun salutes, a parade and will culminate with the raising of the flag and the singing of the National Anthem at the Town Common.

Events will begin at the Evergreen Cemetery in Woodville at 9:45 a.m. At 10:30 several veteran memorial locations on Mayhew Street will each be honored. The parade to the Town Common Gazebo will start at 11:15 and end at noon with the traditional raising of the flag and the singing of the National Anthem.

Alta Legacy Farms Affordable Housing Lottery to be held on July 18

Applications are now being accepted for 60 new affordable apartments at Alta Legacy Farms. Completed applications and the required income documentation must be received, not postmarked, by 2PM on Monday, July 8, 2013 with the lottery drawing to follow on Thursday, July 18 in Room 215 in Hopkinton’s Town Hall, located at 18 Main Street, Hopkinton, MA.

Monthly rent is $1,255 for 1-bedroom units and $1,398 for two-bedroom units and does not include any utilities except for water and sewer. Maximum income limits for households are as follows:
