At their December 20th meeting, the Hopkinton School Committee announced that the Superintendent Search Screening Committee has identified four candidates for further consideration by the School Committee for the position of Superintendent of Schools. The eleven member Screening Committee included representation from the School Committee, the Board of Selectmen, the district’s administrative office, building level administration, professional teaching staff, community representatives, and parents.

The HPTA is taking donations from parents and members in honor of Alyson Geary. The Hopkinton High School principal will be leaving for a new job at the end of 2012. The HPTA would like to honor her years of service with a gift to the high school in her name. The gift to the HS will most likely be in the form of something associated with the Arts or Technology, both areas of passion for Alyson.

The Hopkinton Center for the Arts is pleased to announce that it has received a $7,500 grant from the Foundation for MetroWest. The grant will fund after-school visual arts and music/theater programs for adolescents, and acting classes and art and lecture workshop series for seniors.

“We are delighted to be the recipient of this grant and thank the Foundation for MetroWest for their generosity,” said Kelly Grill, executive director of the HCA. “With this grant we are excited to be able to offer programs to two under served groups: seniors and adolescents.”

I am forwarding a message from Governor Patrick regarding a planned moment of silence at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow morning (12/21/2012) to remember the twenty-six lives that were lost last week in the unthinkable tragedy that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.

Please join the rest of our nation in this moment of silence in memory of the victims, their families and friends and their community.

The Hillers took on cross town rival Holliston yesterday at Navin arena., Despite out shooting the Panthers 27-11, the Hillers came up on the short ended losing 3-1. Freshman Nikolai Saporoschetz scored his first Varisty goal from Matt Decina and Jordan Carroll on the power play. That was Carroll's 6th assist in 3 games. Nikolai almost had his second goal, but a quick whistle by the referee negated another power play goal. Hopkinton takes on Westwood Saturday night in Canton.

Hopkinton's Boy Scout Troop 1 has been selling Christmas trees at Colella's Supermarket since Thanksgiving weekend and will continue until supplies run out. At last count there were only 37 trees left. We may sell out before Saturday, so if you were planning to buy one, please don't delay.

The trees are the fragrant traditional New England Balsam Fir (up to 11 ft.) and the dark green, low-shedding, sturdy-branched Fraser Fir (up to 12 ft.). We accept payment for trees by cash or personal check only, no credit cards. There is a ATM machine at Colella's if needed.
