The Metrowest Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Max Hobart, will present a Family Concert on May 5, 2024, at 2 p.m. in the Hopkinton Middle School auditorium, 88 Hayden Rowe Street, Hopkinton.

The concert will feature Franz Krommer’s Concerto for 2 Clarinets, Op. 35 with guest soloists. Thomas Martin is associate principal clarinetist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and principal clarinetist of the Boston Pops Orchestra. He will play this piece with his wife Kai-Yun Lu, principal clarinet of the Atlantic Symphony. They make beautiful music together.

In addition, the concert will include Sullivan’s Overture to the Pirates of Penzance, the melodic Intermezzo from Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, medleys from Star Wars and ET, and more. Audience members can join in a Sound of Music singalong. And, since this is a concert for all ages, lucky youngsters will have a chance to conduct the orchestra!

The Metrowest Symphony Orchestra draws players from throughout the Metrowest Boston region and has performed in Natick, Needham, Marlborough, and Hopkinton. It presents the Summer Strings sight-reading sessions for experienced string players including students, and its concerts can be viewed on Hopkinton Community Access Television (HCAM.TV).

Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, and free for children under twelve. The concert will benefit Project Just Because, a food and home goods pantry located in Hopkinton that serves all Massachusetts residents in need. All who attend are encouraged to bring an item from its list of needs, at https://www.projectjustbecause.org/donate-items/.
