Faith Community Church’s Student Mission Team will host a Garage Sale/Plant Sale/Car Wash fundraiser on Saturday, June 6, from 8:00 AM-2:00 PM at Faith Community Church, 146 East Main Street, Hopkinton. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards this summer’s student mission trip to Grafton, West Virginia with World Servants.
World Servants, founded in 1986, is a great organization that began bringing teams to West Virginia communities in 2005. The purpose of World Servant’s ministry is to partner with local leaders to impact the community physically and spiritually for Jesus Christ. World Servants projects have a long-term impact both on volunteer participants and local communities while assisting these communities to become self-sustaining.
Grafton, a quaint town tucked in the Appalachian Mountains of Taylor County West Virginia’s mining region, is about 3 hours south of Pittsburg, PA. Appalachia is a 200,000 square mile rural region covering 12 U.S. states, including West Virginia. In the last 30 years, economic challenges have greatly increased as industries that once produced good jobs are gone.
The funds raised will support a team of 86 people (62 students and 24 leaders) who will travel to West Virginia to work for four days conducting Mega Sports Camp for half the day and working the other half of the day on renovation and home repair projects. Mega Sports Camp is a program that offers Bible teachings interwoven with sports training for elementary school-aged children.
Attendees to the garage sale are encouraged to bring their dirty cars with them, and then shop the garage sale and plant sale while members of the Student Mission Team wash their cars! Garage sale items typically include: furniture, toys, books, sporting equipment, housewares, collectibles, and decorative items. The sale will be held rain or shine inside the 30-car garage of Faith Community Church.
