FRAMINGHAM – On Saturday, October 14th, Senator Karen E. Spilka (D-Ashland) hosted her annual Senior Health and Wellness Fair at the Joseph P. Keefe Technical School in Framingham. Over 200 MetroWest seniors attended the morning event to learn about ways to lead healthy and active lifestyles and enjoy a fun morning out in the community.

“Staying happy, healthy and active is important for everyone in our community,” said Senator Spilka. “Each year I am honored to host this terrific day of health and wellness presentations, screenings and educational opportunities, and I always look forward to seeing friends and neighbors from across MetroWest.”

Co-sponsored by Senator Spilka, MetroWest Medical Center and the MetroWest Health Foundation, the Senior Fair offered a variety of workshops and presentations about senior health programs, benefits and wellness activities. Workshops included: discussion of the brain, aging and memory loss; an overview of Medicare policies; and easy yoga and pranayama.

Representatives from state and local healthcare and elder services organizations offered information on services and opportunities in MetroWest. MetroWest Medical Center offered glucose and cholesterol screenings and the Framingham Medical Reserve Corps provided flu shots for attendees.

The event concluded with lunch and entertainment by the MetroWest Golden Tones chorus.
