Sophie. A. Deletti, 91, died Wednesday December 8, 2010 in Marlborough. Born in Milford, she was the daughter of the late John and Rose
(Shumski) Johnson. She was the wife of the late Stephen Deletti, who died inDecember 2003.
The Center for Disease Control estimates between 1.6 to 3.8 million people suffer from concussions each year. In Hopkinton a local medical practice has diagnosed twenty children with concussions in the first two months of school. Many of these children experience reduced concentration, short term memory, and comprehension that affect their school success.
Because of this, the Hopkinton Public Schools Wellness Committee and Main Street Pediatrics have partnered to present an information session entitled Understanding Concussions for parents and interested community members.
Ultimate Sports, Little Actors, Karate and Lego Mania are among the courses being offered by the HPTA for their winter session of extracurricular programs. Registration for the HPTA Extracurricular Programs at Center, Elmwood and Hopkins schools opens at 12:01 AM on December 8 and can be done online at www.hptaonline.com or on a first-come, first-serve basis at all of the participating schools.
The Hopkinton High School Foreign Language Department is looking for Hopkinton Host Families for 12 French exchange students over a two-week period from the last week of February until the first or second week of March. Work has begun on the new Center School playground. In an update sent to parents, Principal Jennifer Parson says the playground will be closed until further notice while the old equipment is removed and the new equipment installed.
“The structure area has been roped off and students are not allowed to enter that area until work has been completed,” said Parson.
Recess will continue, however, and will take place outdoors on the Center School field and blacktop area behind the school as long as the construction is limited to the roped-off area.
Enter Stage Left’s adult chorus, the Treble Makers; as well as Tone Deft, ESL’s high school/college a cappella troupe; and Tone Deft Jr., ESL’s middle school troupe; will present a Holiday Concert titled Celebrate the Season in Song on December 12 at 3:00 p.m. at the United Parish of Upton, One Central Square, Upton. Tickets are $10.00 for general admission. Refreshments will be served.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Lyme Disease, Mold and Fibromyalgia are the topics to be diiscussed at the December 1st Health Lecture Series sponsored by Hopkinton Drug. This will be the tenth in a series of lectures held in Hopkinton and promises to be one of the better attended.
According to Mike Macione, Marketing Manager for Hopkinton Drug, over 40 people have already registered and the lecture has been moved to a new and larger venue, the Hopkinton Senior Center. The lecture will start at 7PM and light refreshments will be served.
The Hopkinton High School Counseling Department will host a Financial Aid Night on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 in the HHS Auditorium from 7:00-9:00 pm. Carla Berg, Associate Director of Financial Services, Bentley University will be the guest speaker. Representing MEFA (Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority), she will provide an overview of the financial aid process, including types of financial aid, how to apply, and determining financing options for your family. Parents and students are encouraged to attend together.
