Lots of weather on tap for this week! Soaking rains, record high temps, thunderstorms, strong winds and that's just Sunday! Chance of light snow Wednesday and then the bottom drops out. Temps only in the 20's to end out the week, with a potential storm next weekend.

Frederick P. Wood, 54

Frederick P. Wood, 54, of Upton and formerly of Hopkinton, passed away January 5, 2016. Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Marguerite L. (Howland) and William A. Wood.

Fred was a member of the Nipmuc Rod and Gun Club and worked in carpentry.

He is survived by his two children, Lisa and Steven Wood, both of Marlborough. He also leaves behind two brothers, Billy and Thomas Wood, as well as 2 grandchildren, Mason and Madison Wood.

Martin Luther King Day Activities Jan 16th and Jan 18th

Martin Luther King Day in Hopkinton began in 2006, when Linda Katz, who had seen a national initiative called the National Day of Giving Back, brought it to the Youth Commission as a way to make MLK day a “Day on, not a day off” for our youth. Linda organized this event for the Youth Commission for 4 years, at which point, Margie Wiggin, current Chair of the Youth Commission, took it over and continued the tradition.

Hopkinton Fire Department Releases Statistics for 2015

The Hopkinton Fire Department sent out the below facebook message highlighting 2015. The facebook post talks about an increase in the amount of emergency responses and quantity of call volume, inspections for homes and businesses as well as car seat installations. Selectmen Reach Decision on Fire Chief Position

(Jan 5th) Tuesday Night the Board of Selectmen further discussed the Fire Chief position. After Chief Ken Clark announced his retirement starting in 2016, the initial search process led to two final candidates, current Framingham Chief Gary Daugherty and Hopkinton "Deputy Fire Chief" Stephen Slaman. After Daugherty dropped his candidacy just prior to the last Selectmen meeting on December 15th, the Selectmen decided to reopen the search process to seek more candidates and made Stephen Slaman interim Fire Chief with full powers starting in 2016.

Bill's Pizza Receives Approval from Selectmen

The Board of Selectmen approved a request from Bill's Pizza for a full liquor license Tuesday Night. Currently Bills Pizza has a section 12 wine & malt license but will now have an all alcohol license. The application also gave Bill's Pizza approval for altering their premises. Bill's Pizza plans on upgrading part of the premises into a fully operational bar.

Hopkinton Garden Club “Epimediums -- Jewels of the Shade” with Karen Perkins

Known by many as a simple ground cover for dry woodland shade, Epimediums are finally getting the appreciation they deserve. This "perfect shade perennial" possesses a delicate beauty that belies its surprisingly tough, long-lasting nature. Karen will illustrate the many and varied types now commercially available, including some of the exciting new evergreen species from China. Characteristics, growth habit, growing and propagation, pests and diseases, and combining Epimediums with other shade perennials in the garden will be addressed.
