Planning Board Continues Sidewalk Planning Process

Following the Hopkinton sidewalk survey, sidewalk plan and previous discussions, the Planning Board discussed working with DPW to come up with a program for sidewalk design, construction and maintenance over the next few years during their October 7 meeting. It is currently unknown what the cost for such a program will be, but DPW is working with a design consultant to figure out a cost.

Casino Free Milford Fundraiser at Pinz October 23

On Wednesday, October 23, from 4:00-9:00pm, Casino Free Milford will hold a fundraiser at PINZ and BLUE DOG Sports Bar & Grille, 110 South Main Street in Milford.

20% of all food and beverage sales in the Blue Dog Sports Bar & Grille purchased by guests who mention “Casino Free Milford” will be donated to Casino-Free Milford. Chef Paul 'Jako' Smith, formerly of Sonsie and Annabelle's in Boston, has recently joined Blue Dog as the new chef.

St. Paul's Rummage Sale October 19

There will be bargains galore on clothing, toys, books, and other miscellaneous items at the St. Paul’s Dollar Days Rummage Sale on Saturday, October 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. St. Paul’s Episcopal Church is located at 61 Wood Street (Rte. 135) in Hopkinton.

Anyone wishing to donate items to the Rummage Sale is welcome to drop off items (with the exception of computers, TVs, microwaves or air conditioners) at the church Parish Hall on Tues., Wed., & Thurs. October 15, 16, & 17, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; and Friday, October 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Town Officials Meet With State Officials to Discuss Water Availability

Representative Carolyn Dykema and staff from Senator Karen Spilka’s office welcomed local officials from the Town of Hopkinton to the State House for a meeting with the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Housing and Economic Development on Thursday, October 3 to discuss the availability of water and its impact on town development.

Fire Station Open House October 6

The Hopkinton Fire Department will open their station to the public for the Annual Open House on Sunday, October 6, 2013 from 11am to 2pm at Fire Headquarters, 73 Main street, Hopkinton, MA 01748.

Residents and children will have the opportunity to view demonstrations, learn about fire safety, and tour the station. Refreshments will be provided and Sparky the Fire Dog is expected to make an appearance.

DPW Installing New Meter Units

Please be advised that the DPW water and sewer division will be installing new outside water meter reading units at customer’s homes and business in the Wood Street vicinity. In most cases this does not require entry into the home. However, in some instances technicians may need to gain access to your basement to make the necessary connection.

Hillers Tie Dedham

The Hopkinton MIddle School Boys’ Soccer team tied their game yesterday in Dedham 2-2. Scoring goals for Hopkinton were Hunter Clarke and Owen Delaney. Sam Worrell, Nate Pucci, Devon Rutter and Jay Tomlinson played very well. The boys’ play home today at 4:00 on the field just behind the Doyle Gym

HPTA Carnival This Saturday October 5!

The annual HPTA fall carnival will take place on October 5 from 10-4 on the town common or at the YMCA if it rains. This year, organizers Michelle McGowan and Nancy Cavanaugh have kept many of the same games, crafts, inflatables, and bake sale that have made the carnival a popular attraction in past years and added some additions they think will excite families.

According to McGowan, "We are really excited to offer the pony rides this year for the first time. I think the children will love it and it will help us raise a lot of money for the schools."

2013 Boston Marathon® Top Finishers to Compete at 13th B.A.A. Half Marathon

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) today announced that 2013 Boston Marathon® champion Lelisa Desisa and Gebre Gebremariam, who placed third at both the 2011 and 2013 Boston Marathon, will return to Boston and compete in the 13th B.A.A. Half Marathon, presented by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund. The B.A.A. Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Boston’s Franklin Park and will include more than 7,500 participants. The event reached its field size limit in twelve minutes when registration opened in July.
