B.A.A. Half Marathon Registration is Now Closed

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) today announced that registration for the 13th B.A.A. Half Marathon, presented by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, has closed after its 7,500 entrant field size limit was reached. The B.A.A. Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2013 and will be the third and final race in the 2013 B.A.A. Distance Medley. Registration opened on Wednesday, July 17 at 10:00 a.m. ET and closed approximately 12 minutes later at 10:12 a.m. ET.

Updated Road Work Schedule

Due to contractors scheduling conflict our pavement management roadwork schedule has changed to the following.

7/18, 7/19 & 7/22 - Fruit St – Saddle Hill Rd to the Westboro town line will be reclaimed, graded and the binder course of asphalt applied.

7/29 – 8/16. Work will resume starting on Huckleberry Rd to Colonnade then to North St.

Huckleberry Rd – Fruit St (East) to 1500’ South of Fruit St (East).
Colonnade Dr – Fruit St to Roosevelt Rd.
North St – Fruit St to 2180’ West of Fruit St.

Tonight: The 2013 ESPYS to Honor Team Hoyt with Jimmy V Perseverance Award

Dick and Rick Hoyt, a father and son team who have been participating in races together for more than 30 years, will be presented the Jimmy V Perseverance Award at The 2013 ESPYS on July 17. Rick, now 51, was born with cerebral palsy and though unable to use his hands or legs he and his 73-year-old father have run in more than 1,000 endurance events—including triathlons and marathons—with Dick pushing his son in a custom-made running chair.

Extreme Heat Tips From M.E.M.A.

Summer in Massachusetts generally brings comfortable weather, but extreme heat conditions do occur usually a few times per summer. There is no universal definition for extreme heat. The term is relative to the usual weather in the region based on climatic averages. Extreme heat, for this climatic region, is usually defined as a period of 3 or more consecutive days above 90 °F, but more generally a prolonged period of excessively hot weather, which may be accompanied by high humidity.

Young and aspiring artists are knocking our socks off every day with their talent, so we are hosting our first Young Artists Exhibit this summer! Work will be judged by professional, well-known artists, and prizes will be awarded for children’s (ages 5 – 11) and youth art (ages 12 – 18).

B.A.A. Half Marathon Registration Opens on July 17

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) today announced that registration for the 13th B.A.A. Half Marathon, presented by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, will begin on Wednesday, July 17 at 10:00 a.m. ET. Registration will be held online at www.baa.org and will be limited to 7,500 entrants. The cost to register is $65 USD. The B.A.A. Half Marathon will begin on Sunday, October 13 at 8:30 a.m. in Boston’s Franklin Park.

Movie on the Common Postponed to July 18

Hopkinton Parks and Recreation will be showing a movie on the common on Thursday, July 18th at 8:30 p.m. The movie is Rango and will begin at 8:30pm.

Rango is a 2011 American computer-animated action comedy western film directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Graham King. Rango was a critical and commercial success, and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Stars Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher and Abigail Breslin.
