Karen Franks, 66

On October 8th, Karen Franks, 66, of Hopkinton went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ after a ten year battle with breast cancer. She died at
home peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Karen is survived by her husband Steve, her four children: John Franks with wife Julie, Erin Avery with husband Ken, Steve Franks with wife Keryn, Mike Franks, and Alyson Cavicchi Franks, and twelve grandchildren and others who called her

Sports Scores Are In

The Hopkinton Middle School boys' soccer team improved its record to 6-0-1 yesterday with a 4-1 victory versus Weston. Playing a particularly strong game for the Hillers were Dan Palleiko, Ben Fargiano with two assists, and Ryan Wolfe. The goals scorers during the game were Everett Rolph, Ryan Mastroianni, Ben Fargiano and Matt Austin. The boys next play on Thursday versus Ashland at 4:30 PM on Field 5.

The Hopkinton varsity boys soccer team tied Dover=Sherborn 0-0.

Selectmen Review Dates and Issues for Fiscal Year 2014 Budget

“No way in heck will the citizens of Hopkinton entertain a 4.2 percent tax impact,” said Brian Herr after hearing the news from Finance Director Chris Ketchen that due to a series of unfortunate events from 10 to 15 years ago, the town is facing a “baked in” 4.2 percent budget increase for FY2014. “Four point two percent will not happen from my chair.”

Herr’s comment was made during the board’s discussion of the draft budget calendar at its October 2 meeting in which Ketchen outlined the budget deadlines dictated by the town charter and provided a preliminary budget forecast.

HMS Soccer Improves Record Beating Dedham

The Hopkinton Middle School boys' soccer team improved its record to 5-0-1 yesterday last Friday with a 5-3 victory in Dedham. Matt Austin, Mike Karlis, Adam Moses, and Max Mauro played an excellent game. Goal scorers included Ben Fargiano, Ryan Mastroianni, Scott Babigian, and Nick Mirabile. The boys play today (Tuesday) in Hopkinton on Field 5 versus
Weston at 4:00.

Notice from Water Department

On Tuesday, and Wednesday October 9th and 10th at approximately 9:00 AM, crews will be flushing portions of the newly installed water main on Front Street. This flushing is necessary in order to test the mains and prepare them for active service. Please check your water before using it to ensure that it has cleared from the flushing, should any discoloration occur. We estimate the flushing to take approximately one hour to complete.

Marty Lamb Sponsors Veterans Breakfast

On Friday, October 5th, Marty Lamb, candidate for State Representative in the Eighth Middlesex District and small business owner, sponsored the Hopkinton Veterans’ Breakfast at the Senior Center.

"I was extremely pleased to speak with our veterans who have sacrificed so much for our nation. Sponsoring this event was just a small gesture to show my appreciation," said Lamb.

St. Paul's "Blessing of the Animals" Oct. 14

Creatures of all species – including four-legged friends or feathered fowl -- are invited to receive a special blessing at St. Paul’s Annual Blessing of the Animals on October 14.

All dogs, cats, and others of God’s creatures – and their human friends – are invited to a special ceremony being held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 61 Wood Street (Rte 135) in Hopkinton. The Blessing of the Animals is being done at 10:15 a.m., followed by a “Pet Friendly” service of the Holy Eucharist at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend.
