By contributor,

We all want to motivate our teens to do their best in school. But research suggests that some things simply don't work very well. Here are some things to avoid:
~Unearned praise.
~Fear, threats and punishment. ("If you don't get at least a B on this test, there will be no TV for a month.")
~Overly simplified statements. ("No guts, no glory.")
~Name-calling, nagging, blaming or placing guilt. ("You're lazy and you'll never get into college if you don't straighten up.")

Snow Removal from Elmwood School Roof

By contributor,

This memo serves to inform you about the build-up of snow on the Elmwood School roof. As always we are keeping an eye on the snow loads on all school roofs in Hopkinton. The HPS Buildings and Grounds Director has been consulting with the Hopkinton building dept. Early last week the building inspector and Dir. of HPS Buildings and Grounds determined that because the snow was so light there was no cause for concern. When hearing there was another storm on the way with the potential for substantial accumulation, HPS contacted a contractor that we have used in the past to remove snow.
