Planning Board Meets July 8

At its meeting on Monday, July 8 the Hopkinton Planning Board will hold two public hearings; one a Scenic Road Public Hearing regarding the removal of two additional trees from West Main and School Street related to the planned intersection construction project to install a stop light, and a second Scenic Road Public Hearing regarding tree removal at 119 Ash Street.

Also on the agenda is an Executive Session beginning at 8PM to discuss strategy with respect to litigation with respect to 203 Pond Street.

Fill a Backpack Items Again Collected at St. Paul’s Church

In support of Project Just Because’s Fill a Backpack drive, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will be collecting items for the program at the Church Office at 61 Wood Street in Hopkinton. The “Fill a Backpack” drive will run from July 7 to August 11 and collection hours are Sundays, 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon; Tuesdays, 9:00 a.m. to noon; and Wednesdays, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. St. Paul’s invites other churches, groups, or individuals to join the Fill a Backpack drive. Christ Church in Medway joins St. Paul’s this year in collecting donations. Please contact the St.

Latest Main Street Construction Upate

Starting on Monday, July 8th construction will resume at 43 Main Street (Hopkinton Gourmet) working towards Hayden Rowe. The parking spaces on both sides of Main Street will be utilized to accommodate two lanes of vehicular traffic. Therefore those parking space will be barreled off as a temporary parking restriction on Sunday night on both sides of Main Street from 43 Main (Hopkinton Gourmet) to 17 Main St. (Z Bistro). It is intended that the construction crew will use these spaces as long they are in the construction zone.

Please plan your day accordingly.

Driscoll and Eberlin Resign, Parks & Recreation Commission Seeking Candidates

The Board of Selectmen voted at its July 2, 2013 meeting to accept the resignation of two members of the Parks & Recreation Commission and is currently seeking candidates for these positions.

A joint meeting, consisting of the remaining members of the Hopkinton Parks & Recreation Commission and the members of the Board of Selectmen will convene and vote at a later date to appoint two individuals to temporarily fill both seats until the next Annual Town Election in May of 2014.

Remembering Paul Phipps

On 23 December 2012, one of Hopkinton's renowned WWII veterans, Paul M. Phipps, died. He was 91.

Paul enlisted in the US Marine Corps in March 1942 while a student at The College of the Holy Cross, and shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Graduation schedules were accelerated, and Paul reported to Parris Island, SC on 30 December 1942.

Success during basic training earned Paul an opportunity to attend officers training at Quantico, VA in April 1943. He received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant on 30 June 1943 and was married the same day.

Spilka Launches Congressional Campaign

On Monday night Karen Spilka launched her congressional campaign in front of over 200 supporters who braved the weather and the heat to show their support for her run for Congress.

Karen was introduced by Bobby Bower of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, who referred to Karen as a champion of the middle class and someone who knows how to get things done. Her remarks focused on her ability to deliver results and her desire to get to Washington to work with President Obama as she has worked with Governor Patrick here in Massachusetts.

HCA Cleans out with Help from Liberty Mutual Employees

On June 17th, the Hopkinton Center for the Arts welcomed seven employees from Liberty Mutual Insurance’s Hopkinton office who helped clean out the garage, storage room and costume closet.”

“We are so grateful to Liberty Mutual Insurance for their help in cleaning out and organizing our storage spaces.” said Kelly Grill, executive director of HCA. “It’s great to have that building de-cluttered and organized, and we are thankful to have such supportive corporate neighbors in town.”

I possess 19 years of educational experience ranging from teaching to leading, all focusing on the early childhood level. My most recent experience has been that of Simonian Center Principal since 2007. I am excited to bring my skills as an educational leader to the Center School and partner with the community in education to ensure success for each child.

Robert J. St.Angelo Sr., 74, of Marlborough and formerly a long time
resident of Hopkinton, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013 at his home.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Rose (Fetta) and Pasco
St.Angelo. He was the husband of 47 years to Patricia Ann (Dimock)
St.Angelo of Marlborough.
